This would be sweet! I definitely wouldn't mind switching to Cingular and their rollover minutes. Looking at Cingular's family plans it looks like I would save about $20/month over my current T-Mobile plan. And since Cingular is GSM like T-Mobile, my mom (who I share the plan with) could continue using her existing simple Samsung mobile phone that she's familiar and comfortable with (I'd just have to get a Cingular SIM card). And as someone already mentioned above, phone numbers in the US are transferrable between carriers, so although it's probably a pain I would do all the paperwork to transfer the 2 numbers I have under T-Mobile.
I just hope the phone is sweet enough to make me wanna ditch my already impressive Sony Ericsson phone. The main improvents I would be looking for over my SE phone are:
- Better music player software/controls (I think this one's a safe bet)
- Stereo bluetooth (less sure about this one)
- 3G enabled (looks promising - I'm hoping the iPhone will be 3.5G HSDPA enabled like the LG CU500 phone)
- Better browser (Actually Opera mini is fine, maybe all that's needed is a larger screen and faster connection speed)
- Better camera, especially under low light conditions (almost guaranteed to be better camera based on rumors it's 3 megapixels and also Apples experience integrating tiny video cameras into its laptops and iMacs)
- Larger screen (would like it to be 2+ inches diagonal and at least 320 x 240 pixels) (this one I think is a safe bet)
So basically, I will almost certainly be getting the iPhone as soon as it's available and I fill out the paperwork to transfer my number over...

I'm with T Mobile and have never needed to call and straighten a bill out, or get credit applied to my account. I'd say the best customer service is the kind you don't need to use. So, I'm hoping that T Mobile will carry the iPhone 6 months after the initial release.

hmmm works fine for me :) Took a while longer to load on the iPod (had ablack screen for about 5 secs) but plays fine.OK Please play on computer and get info - Command i - while playing to know for certain it is 640x480 H.264. On the bottom it says Normal Size: What numbers are there? In Format: it will say H.264 if it was encoded that way. Also what is the FPS Number playing? Should be 30.

The new Mac Pro has finally achieved acoustic running levels to make it perfect
for audio recording solutions.
It will be interesting to see how quiet the new Merom iMacs run.
We've read countless complaint threads over the years about noise issues.
This is why I think Apple will pass on some of these processors to maintain
the new standards they have achieved.
It will be interesting to see how the 65nm back to back mirrored quad chips perform compared to the 45 nm chipsets.
For now, I think the priority is still to get heat down in the notebooks and to improve battery life.

for QUIET that no other workstation in it's class has ever achieved.
They won't be able to maintain that ground if they cut too many corners.

The data is stored on YOUR phone and YOUR laptop ... Apple does not have a centralized database with that data - it is all on your devices.
You have no proof of this.
The governments have those big databases, but that's a different story.
I'm sure they do... but for the most part they just subpoena the telecom provider for whatever records they require.

No single consumer hard drive on earth supports that kind of speed (let alone even USB3's top speed) so I haven't a clue what you're getting at. Why would someone pay MORE to get a drive that is no faster than a USB3 drive? They would almost certainly have to as demand determines price/availability and there is nearly zero demand for TB devices at this point in time while USB3 are backwards compatible with the vast majority of the computers on the planet. My sales figures are based on the relative cost of drives with Firewire interfaces (the closest example that already exists to Thunderbolt in terms of technology versus low demand) against drives that only support USB2 and/or USB3. There is always a large premium for a drive with a FW interface, even today when a fair amount of computers exist with FW interfaces (i.e. SOME demand). Therefore TB compatible drives will likely cost considerably more money than USB3 drives for the SAME underlying drive. You will pay a premium for the interface just like Firewire to offset the higher costs of low production numbers created by little demand compared to USB3/2 interfaces. There will be no speed advantage on a consumer drive because no consumer drive even comes CLOSE to the limits of either interface. So unlike YOUR $10 scenario, I didn't just make a number up out of thin air. It would take so much space when everybody uploads their own library to Apple's data center(s). You'd have countless double songs on their servers, all with different sizes, bitrates etc. One single file (with backups etc.) would be more efficient. But I like to keep my own file info/cover art etc. So what will the size of our own disk be? I hope more than my iPod Shuffle…

This is slightly disheartening news. All the info seems to suggest that Apple wanted this to end quickly so they made an offer to a small company that wouldn't cost as much as they may have lost in the lawsuit.

In that case, you were only listening to the ignorant. USB ports were common on PC systems a year before the toxic plastic CRT Imacs shipped.

I upgraded a half dozen systems in early 1997 - yep, they had USB ports. I built a system with an Asus P2L97-S motherboard in fall '97. Yep, USB ports.
When "USB first showed up", only PCs had it.
But, no surprise, few devices were available at the start of 1998 and software support was erratic.
Have fun debugging Apple's ThunderPort support. If the new MBPs couldn't run normal programs without locking up and crashing - do you really think that after waiting months for your ThunderPort disk drive (no price listed, that's scary too) that it will "just work".
It probably will work most of the time after the second firmware update. You may have to wait for the "early 2012" MacBooks for it to always work.

I predict that in 2015, iOS handset users will still have the highest customer satisfaction and that Apple will be walking away with the lion's share of the smartphone industry's profits.
Meaning there will be more grumpy non-iPhone users and more grumpy HTC/Nokia/Samsung/Motorola/LG shareholders.
By 2015, the iPhone will be implanted in the back of our necks and interface directly with our brain. It will get battery power from our neural system.
I got burned once, and only once with the best Windows Phone of the time, the HTC Rhodium. I hate that phone so much!
All the people I know who got the WinMo7 phone told me it sucks!

I am with you on this. I don't see the real compelling reason to have a plain old iPod that makes phone calls and sucks all my battery so I can't play music, or vice versa. It needs to be a compelling smart phone, that will be the inovative part, not the hardware design. We all know it will look like a nano.
But why should it? This isn't Motorola... this is Apple. They are supposed to be the masters of industrial design and software integration. No doubt the phone will have an awesome user interface, but I expect more from Apple than sticking an antenna and GSM chip inside a nano, putting a keypad underneath it, and calling it a day. This couldn't have taken very long to dream up... it seems like the most obvious and un-Apple idea of them all.
If this is the fabled iPhone then Apple is losing its touch... the design was already done when they introduced the nano.

H.264 isn't really that much data.
The Wildlife 720p HD stream from Apple is less than 3000 kbits/sec. For comparison, the Pixlet demo is like 27 mbits/sec. A 1080p h.264 stream is less than 10 mbits/sec.
So with those numbers, a 720p stream with 5.1 audio should easily stream over even a 10 mbit network device. So I can easily see this working over 802.11g.
Now the only issue is what they are going to put in the device to decode the streams with. Forward compatibility with future codecs would be nice.

I'm not buying the ordinary coreduo because I heard that it has a lot of bugs that intel will only fix on the new processor.

To get a new design and enclosure is always nice. Apple has been doing amazing designs in the past years. For sure new enclosures will look nice.
The thing is, at this time after the whole Intel transition, all the current enclosures stayed the same (except few changes on Macbook). So, I would not expect anything different anytime soon. I think the current look is great in all Apple hardware line up.
I don't know. I think the latest MBP was rushed to market a bit. I think Apple just wanted to get to intel and really ddn't think about design.
The current PB look has been around since 2001. I think the alumin look is starting to look soooo 2000. Were heading toward time to move on with a new chip and a new look.
Personally I prefer plastic to metal. Metal shows way too many scratches, finger prints, smudges, etc. The smooth shiny plastic look is much better and it is more durable. The metal enclosures dent, bend and break. They also transmit the heat faster to your lap and interfere with BT and Airport. The plastic enclosures give and spring back like new.
Gun Metal ABS plastic with rounded smooth corners, new keyboard, quick access ram, HD, and battery, magnetic latch, sound like the future to me.:D
