Samsung also feels the need to depict its products just like Apple's, on a reflective white surface.

I wonder how it feels to be a designer for Samsung where you are forced to emulate the competitor's work rather than implement your own vision.

Hey, they could build a little hub with a cord that plugs into the TB port and provide a few USB 1,2,3 ports, maybe a firewire port, plus a glowing Apple logo on top and call it an iHub.
Apple drives me crazy with their practice of naming everything with a "i" in front of it. I wonder if when Steve Jobs goes to the bathroom if he has an iBM :D

The unibody was already a giant leap forward. How much better can Apple get?
I'm more interested in the specifications, and hardware (electronics) not so much the casing.
Well they arent going to get worse are they!!

The PC industry is plagued with lowest common denominator, low cost crap.
Apple and Intel are trying to move forward. We should support that.I do not appear to recall Apple extolling the Intel HD 3000.
Otherwise, I am still waiting for proof that Thunderbolt is on the Panther Point controller and I find it unlikely it is on the processor itself given the current PCIe hackjob to implement it.

Really not getting this. Storage is a lot more cheap and plentiful than bandwidth. And the amount of music you can carry on an iphone - to say nothing of an ipod classic - is enough to listen to for days on end, 24 hrs a day, without repeat. Well, I'm glad if some find it useful, but I'll stick to local storage, thanks.
Personal preference really. I would personally pay for peace of mind knowing that my mechanical hard drives are not going to crash. Even backup and being redundant is not enough sometimes. If someone is willing to guarantee that I will never lose my content that I store on their shares then I am all in.
Personally my thought process will change on this when SSD's start getting more popular and larger.

So all Greenpeace did was hand out leaflets in areas other than their stand? So they didn't smash up the Apple stand or invade Adobe chanting and shouting.
They handed out leaflets and were ejected because no one's ever allowed to talk about the downsides of our throwaway consumer-trinket technojunk culture without being told to shut up.
Heck, every trade show I ever go to has girls with their tits half hanging out wondering the halls handing out leaflets nowhere near their particular stand.
Sad to see so many people now happy to have people's free speech stamped all over. No wonder Bush can dismantle the Bill of Rights and his lapdog Blair can swiftly remove centruries-old liberties with barely a whisper...
You're joking, right?
(A) It was in their contract that they had to stay in their booth. It was up to them... if they didn't like the contract, they could have stayed at home, or on their fishing-boat-ramming ships. They violated something THEY AGREED TO and were kicked out for it. Sounds pretty reasonable to me.
(B) It's a private trade show. A PRIVATE trade show. If the organizers of it dictate that you have to chant a seven-paragraph-"all hail Apple" chant and hop on one foot to get in the doors... then that's what you have to do to get in. If the rules are unfair, no one goes, they lose money. This isn't a government-organized event. Freedom of speech has nothing to do with it. Now, if Apple went after them for distributing fliers on the public streets, or for saying any of this on their website or any other PUBLIC arena, that would indeed be infringement of freedom of speech, so long as what Greenpace was saying wasn't false or defamatory.
People don't understand what freedoms truly are. It doesn't mean you get to say and do whatever you want wherever you want - that's anarchy, and anarchy is bad... unless you're the biggest, strongest and most brutal. Freedom of speech really means you can't be jailed or otherwise punished by the government for saying what you want in a pulic arena.
I'm done. Continue your whining.

I have just tried the sw. My shiny new iPad2 was tracked in the US but not in the UK? Is this tracking different by country to comply with local laws?
From what I'm reading only GSM devices do this - so if you have the WiFi it is probably not doing it.

who the hell are cingular? what about orange t-mobile, vodaphone or o2? I guess it's US only again...
You've gotta love it. You're getting mad at not getting a phone that 1) Doesn't exist yet, 2) May not exist at all, and 3) the US doesn't even have yet.

Well I think most people are like me, they want their money to go as far as it can go. Right now $2000 will get you a decent 20" 32bit processor iMac. A few weeks from now (or hours! who knows! excitement!) it will get you a decent 20" 64bit processor iMac. I got my iBook about a week before they announced a speed bump (did not know enough about Mac culture to know to wait) and it pissed me off. Not gonna happen to me again!
I understand exactly what you're saying, and agree 100%. I don't understand how people can't understand this theory. "Waiting for Rev. B" is one this, but "waiting for that minor update that's only a week away at the most" makes sense, and it's stupid not to wait. Don't listen to them, they're just jealous because you have patience and they don't. :D
Also Im not sure if this has been mentioned, but the "free iPod with a Mac" offer ends sept. 16 according to the Apple Store....not sure if there's any correlation going here...

Microsoft has their own name. I guess they are just trying to protect the descriptive nature of the term. "Microsoft Marketplace, the app store for Windows Phone 7".
Microsoft does not intend to use the trademark.
I don't get why Apple filed for such a descriptive mark anyway. iTunes App Store was what they called it at first, what was wrong with that ? iOS App Store would also save all these legal troubles. Apple App Store another that's perfectly fine.
Ahhh, I didn't realize the first part.
Off topic, have you seen or used a Windows Phone 7 yet?

Neither will be redesigned next year. Look at the length of time Apple stuck with the previous design. There are still a few years left to this "look."
As others have mentioned already, the last redesign was in the Fall of 2009. Before that was the Fall of 2007 (before that was January 2006 with the switch to Intel). The redesign cyles seem to be approx every two years. So 2011 could see another redesign, especially when the last two redesigns coincided with an OS X upgrade. That's why I keep saying look for a redesign this Fall, just before or just after Lion is released.
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A293 Safari/6531.22.7)
When do you estimate they will come out with the redesigned exterior?
See above answer.
They stuck with the previous design for 3-4 years. It has now been 3 years with the current look.
No, it has been two years since the previous redesign. That is when the screen sizes changed from 20" and 24" to 21.5 and 27".
Curious that everyone is clamoring for a thunderbolt-enabled machine, but there isn't a single thunderbolt drive available on the market.
I guess some people just need to feel like they have new stuff even if it's totally pointless.
Good points. Thunderbolt won't really be usable for anything until at least this Fall.

So previous iMac design lasted 4 years...it's been 3. Previous MBP design lasted, what, 6 years? Rumors are meaningless until we see leaked shots or something (remember the iPad 2 rumors?)
I don't think that overhauling the exterior of iMac or MBP is high on Apple's priority list at the moment and I'd be surprised if it happened within the next year.
Be prepared to be surprised this Fall.
Isn't this iMac design from fall of 2009? That's less than two years.
Bingo. At least someone is paying attention to the redesign cycles.
Yep. There is little reason for Apple to fear USB 3. It's slower in both theoretical maximum speed and FAR slower in real world maximum speed. The only advantage is... Uhm... TB supports USB so... I guess there isn't one. Yes, I think USB 3 is quite possibly going to be the last iteration of USB.
Yup, I think Steve has made it loud and clear, it's Thunderbolt all the way. Apple won't be using USB 3 as an interim bridge to, or alongside Thunderbolt.
I seen it as more of a mid model refresh.
TECHNICALLY been the same since 2008.
No it hasn't. Technically, the iMac has only been the same since the last refresh, and less technically, since the last redesign--which was in the Fall of 2009.
If you mean the aluminum design, that was actually way back in 2007.
Yes, the iMac was redesigned from the white housing and S-PVA LCD panels to the aluminum housing and IPS (and TN) panels in the Fall of 2007.
The fall 2009 refresh was a big redesign. The displays were all different sizes, 21.5 and 27" and went edge to edge. This was the first time since moving to Intel that the iMacs had desktop processors instead of the previous mobile chips. It was not a trivial redesign which is why it's unlikely there will be much different about this year's updates other than ports, processors, and storage upgrades.
Excellent, you are correct. The last redesign was not trivial. And look for a possible redesign this Fall to coincide with the release of Lion. I'm not guarranteeing anything here, it's just been the pattern the last two redesigns.

Cingular has terrible coverage here in Asheville, especially on campus from my experience. With verizon though, I can be anywhere and have guarunteed at least 3 bars. Cingluar works sometimes on campus but for the most part its a bit sketchy. Haven't tried it in the city though.

agree,.. but what about all of the other forms of dangerous/distracted driving? Cell phone, texting, eating, speeding, etc etc... shouldn't they all be punished similarly? why has DUI become 1000x worse than everything else?

It makes sense. iProducts are increasingly becoming ubiquitous, therefore they will become more profitable for malware developers to attack. It's not a McAfee sales pitch so much as it's stating the obvious. Same with Android.
I agree, but at the same time Both Apple and Android use a Unix based OS. Unix based OS's are what run the internet (linux mainly). Their operating systems will be strong security wise by default. Because Unix is an open system, security holes are found and can be easily patched in the open source community, Apple and Android both benefit from using Unix based operating systems, because Unix based systems are also responsible for holding up the fundamental infrastructure of what we call the internet.
Also, android has free anti-virus scanners available in there market. Apple may have some too. I think mcafee is just trying to sell product, but if I was them i would want to sell my product to EVERY person who had Android or iOS based phone, simply because that is a VERY large user base.

Hmmm looks like the analyst just took the current Symbian market share and gave it to Windows7 for 2015. I think that is very naive. I think that many more people will move to Android, iPhone and WebOS in the time it takes Nokia to ramp up the Windows phones.

Apple is in a slow fall...
I love Mac's, and will always own one. However, the Intel Mac's are buggy as hell. (Still Not Compareable to Windows) The iPod's are not as good as the PSP, except for the large hard drive (and the ease of iTunes).
PSP better than iPod??in what sense??
For video playback the PSP is better hands down, no contest. For music, the iPod wins hands down no contest.
Just depends on what you're in it for.

I don't know about woodcrest...but they were definitely not the first with yonah.

there is no such thing as charity in america, it always comes through commerce. why not just donate the $200 bux? does a lot more than the 10 bux you are donating now, so you can justify getting a new ipod. hell i would buy a red ipod just cos of the color i don't see why the cos has to be associated with it, if they're gonna do this they might as well just donate 10% of all ipod sales. at least it does something more than haveing a "show off" recipet for your so called act of charity.
